Day Four: Ketchup ... er, I mean, Catch Up!

Today, we're going to concentrate on finishing getting all the information you need in your brochure.

Make sure you have box for:

* Cave formations

* Location

* History (who discovered it and when)

* Inside the Cave (Climate, Size, Description - including the Big Room)

* How the Caverns were Formed

First make sure you have notes for all of that information. If you need more information, look at the National Park Service website, National Parks Traveler and Wikipedia. For more information on formations, go to here. For information about bats, look here.

Day Three: Making a Map

1. Go to Maptrop and put markers for El Paso and Carlsbad Caverns.

2. Take a picture of the map (shift,  and 4 at the same time).

3. Open your brochure, make a new text box and title it Location. Drag the picture file into the brochure and resize it as needed.


When you're finished, make sure you're finished entering in the information about formations and adding pictures. Add new text boxes for other categories of notes that you take.

Day Two - Pictures

After you've finished writing about the formations, raise your hand and your teacher will check to see if what you've written is sufficient. If it is, she will add you to the list. Start working on your other sections.

Mr. Mattson will work with groups of 4-6 to show them how to work with photos. Here are the basic steps:

1. Open up iPhoto. Look for a shared library with Carlsbad Pictures. Drag the ones that illustrate the formations you put in your brochure into your iPhoto Library.

2. When you've found your pictures, open iPhoto. Trim the pictures to focus on the part you're trying to show. Rename the pictures.

3. In Keynote, open the Media Browser and drag each picture you need into your brochure. Resize the picture.

You are working for an advertising agency and you have been hired by Carlsbad Caverns to design a pamphlet to inform El Pasoans about what they'll see at the cave and persuade them to visit.

Today you are going to start by entering in the text.

Add a text box to put in each section of information.

Main titles should be 14 point and bold.

Subtitles should be 10 point and bold.

Main text should be 10 point and not bolded.

Save your work often.
